Telemundo has filled three of its four open network correspondent slots. Inside sources have confirmed that Edgar Muñoz joins the network and Telemundo Phoenix anchors Rebeka Diaz and Rubén Pereida are leaving the local station to take on two of the openings.
Rebeka will be become the New York correspondent, filling the vacancy left by Isolda Peguero, whose contract wasn’t renewed. Rebeka joined Telemundo Phoenix in February of 2015 from Efekto Noticias in Mexico City, where she spent four years as a News Anchor.
Rubén moves to Chicago to fill the void left by Janet Rodriguez’s departure to Univision network. Rubén started at Telemundo Phoenix in January of 2013, after spending 8 years as an anchor/video journalist at KTVW Univision 33 in Phoenix.
Edgar will be the Los Angeles-based correspondent, returning to Telemundo 7 months after KVEA-52 did not renew his contract as 6 and 11 pm anchor, prompting his exit from the local station. Edgar was previously a Univision network correspondent for Univision in Mexico City.
Edgar is set to start his new role later this month. Rebeka and Rubén will finish sweeps in Phoenix, before moving to their new roles. A source says their last day at KTAZ is scheduled for May 26.
Telemundo’s Houston correspondent slot, left vacant after Iván Taylor’s resignation, remains open.
Telemundo has yet to officially confirm the appointments.
