Effective tomorrow, José Diaz Balart will take over as Noticiero Telemundo’s new anchor. The network also announced today that it will launch a weekly public affairs show in the first quarter of 2010, with José as the host.
He replaces Pedro Sevcec, who has been at the helm of the newscast since January of 2000.
Today is Pedro’s last day anchoring Noticiero Telemundo. He will not stay on at the network in any capacity.
Throughout the years, José has hosted a variety of news programs at the Telemundo network and stations. Before joining the Spanish-language network, he was co-anchor of “CBS This Morning.”

Really bad decision and a sad day for those who watched the newscast. Sevcec is a great anchor and extremely professional.Jose Diaz Balart on the other hand has been disappointing in more ways than one and somehow he always comes afloat on all the lay offs and reshuffling by the network. First it was the Telemundo morning newscast to Cada Dia. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that he is a Diaz Balart.

Telemundo is "on the decline" and its changes show that. Diaz Balart could be good for Miami and its Cuban constituency. If Telemundo wants a national preeminence perhaps has to move to NY or LA where they can find real Hispanic opinion on the topics that the community really relate with.

I beg to differ. Sevcec is far from being a proffesional journalist – yes, he may get paid as one, but the way he carries himself on camera is NOT proffesional. Perhaps my biggest criticism of Sevcec is that he can't seem to keep is personal view out of presenting the news.
The news of Sevcec's ousting is not as good as I might have hoped, since he is being replaced by Jose Diaz Balart, yet another guy with a personal agenda to push (the anti-Castro, or anti-anything other than the ultra-right).
True, he will be great for the Cuban dissidents in Miami but for the rest of us, it's an old, tired propaganda-veiled-as-news that frankly seems outdated in this time where most of the world is not leaning towards the far-right anymore.

Shame on Telemundo. News are not made from replacing a icon for the Spanish news for Diaz Ballart, a men that is personally related to Tom Brown, Telemundo CEO. In the last 10 years Diaz Ballart had go from a show to another and haven't be able to succesfuly stay in any of them.
Telemundo is on the decline if we talk Spanish newscast. Decisions like this put Telemundo in a bad spot.
