Spanish-language media has not only expanded its news coverage of the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake, but joined in the effort to raise emergency funds for the impoverished country.
Univision network sent two news crews, which include weekend anchor Enrique Teuteló and reporter Ricardo Arrámbari. They have also set up a toll-free number with the American Red Cross to support the relief efforts for the victims.
Telemundo launched “Juntos por Haiti,” a multi-platform campaign to promote relief efforts. They have also teamed up with the American Red Cross and set up another toll-free number.
SBS radio today is doing its own fundraising – holding a 12-hour radiothon, promoted by sister station Mega TV.
Local Univision and Telemundo stations around the country are also participating, promoting their network’s fundraising efforts and providing expanded coverage of the disaster.

Thank you Telemundo for not continuing to INSULT your audience and finally sending a correspondent to cover the earthquake in Haiti. Shame on YOU MEDIA MOVES for not calling Telemundo on the Carpet in this posting where you talk about the hispanic networks expanded coverage of Haiti.
On December 15th Media Moves posted the following:
Telemundo not only dumped Pedro Sevcec yesterday. It also announced a "comprehensive news strategy to enhance and expand its news content across key day parts and multiple platforms."
What does that mean? Well, the network promises to increase its "investment in local newscasts at the Telemundo stations," and pump up its "multimedia news strategy across all its platforms." The station group is creating "content centers" across the country "to improve news coverage and provide multimedia news content."
The Haiti Crisis was the first TEST of this new strategy and they FAILED MISERABLY! Shame on the DON BROWNE, Who constantly brags of what a dedicated news man he is, SHAME on RAMON ESCOBAR, who was hired as a consultant to shape up ARV and Noticiero TELEMIUNDO if that is the best he can do than the company he represents should be worried. SHAME ON LETICIA HERRERA, The Executive Producer who appears to be asleep at the Wheel. SHAME ON the TELEMUNDO AFFILIATES NOT one O/O had the COMMON SENSE to send their own Correspondent. But what can you expect when the NEW ANCHOR JOSE DIAZ BALART, OBVIOUSLY IS NOT eager nor is interested in demonstrating why he is ANCHOR material. Mr. Balart when NBC hit the ground You should have been there, and if NOT with NBC you should have found a way to get there. You should have made it Clear to your superiors why it was important to be in Haiti… That is what a GOOD, Legit, experienced, dedicated, Journalist would have done… Which one of these are You Mr. Diaz Balart. TELEMUNDO you are NOT fooling the audience you are just fooling yourselves and disrespecting those who work there and the few who continue to watch. You don't have to see the ratings to know they have dropped.
