It was a little over a year ago that Liz Zavala, a Star-Telegram editor, survived a round of layoffs at the paper by taking a reporter job. But she didn’t escape the pink slip last Friday.
Liz is reportedly among 15 newsroom employees, including reporters and photographers that join the ranks of thousands of journalists nation-wide, who have lost their jobs in the past 4 years.
Prior to joining the S-T, Liz spent 7 years at the Dallas Morning News. Before that, she worked 10 years at the Star-Telegram.
While disappointed, Liz tells me she’s not giving up on the business: “My mantra is siempre adelante, always forward. I’m not done in journalism yet, so I’m actively seeking journalism jobs.”
