KNBC staffers were told on Thursday that they’ll be moving out of their current newsroom and into a new hi-def facility in 2012. Turns out, they’ll be moving into the now empty soundstage that was used for the short-lived “Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien,” which will be remodeled to fit the KNBC and NBC network bureau newsrooms.
But what about the other half of NBCU’s duopoly? Telemundo spokesman Alfredo Richard confirmed that the KVEA-52 newsroom, which was merged into the KNBC-4 lot in 2004, will be moved to a separate location.
“Telemundo is looking to consolidate all its units in Los Angeles – station and network – under one roof and create a bigger Telemundo presence in that key Hispanic market,” he tells me. The network is looking for a “state of the art location” that will continue to connect the station with the NBC news operation, but that will give it “a clear Telemundo identity.”
Alfredo says the move, which should be completed by 2011, will be a major investment that will include “expanded office space, studio facilities and technology” that will house all Telemundo assets in Los Angeles under one roof.
Although there’s no official confirmation, there’s talk that KWHY-22, the station that NCBU has put on sale in order to move forward with the Comcast merger, will be out of the lot soon.
