In a leadership shakeup of MediaNews Group, Dean Singleton is stepping down from his post as CEO. He will remain chairman and publisher of the Denver Post and Salt Lake Tribune.
Singleton announced this week that a search for the new CEO is underway. Until his replacement is found, he will become executive chairman focused on acquisitions.
MediaNews President Joseph Lodovic has retired effective immediately, and all Class A board directors were replaced.
MediaNews, owner of 56 dailies, including the San Jose Mercury News, the Oakland Tribune, and the Detroit News, filed for bankruptcy protection in January of last year. It was able to reduce its debt load from $930 million to $165 million, allowing the company to emerge from bankruptcy by March 2010.
