“Noticias Univision Kansas” makes its debut tonight on KDCU-DT at 10 pm, making it the first local Spanish-language newscast in Kansas.
Marcos Alcocer will anchor the Mon-Fri newscast. He is a former magazine writer and editor from Mexico, who has lived in Kansas for the past 20 years.
He’ll be joined by reporter Marielkis Salazar, a recent broadcast journalism graduate.
Others joining the team are weather anchor Xiomara Guevara and photojournalist Alejandra Rojas.
The Entravision-owned Univision affiliate in Kansas, which signed on in Aug. of 2009, is set on targeting the fastest-growing demographic in the Wichita/Hutchison DMA. According to the 2010 Census, Hispanics are now 13.4% of the Kansas population.
