Sergio Hernandez, a reporter for ProPublica, has filed a lawsuit against Mayor Michael Bloomberg over freedom of information requests.
Sergio, who also writes for The Village Voice, announced yesterday he’s suing Bloomberg over his administration’s refusal to hand over emails between him and Hearst Magazines exec Cathie Black prior to her landing a job as NYC schools chancellor. She resigned after only 3 months on the job.
Sergio, who suspects something fishy over Black’s controversial hiring, first requested access to the emails in November of 2010. It was denied in January of this year, because they “were priviliged, internal documents.” An appeal was rejected. So now, he’s suing the Bloomberg administration with the help of the Media Freedom and Information Access Clinic at Yale Law School.
