Televisa and Lionsgate to produce English TV shows

Televisa’s interest in attracting viewers in the U.S. continues, with plans to expand its partnership with independent film and entertainment studio Lionsgate.  Their new venture: create television shows for English-language audiences.

Lionsgate and Televisa announced they would be working on 6 to 8 projects a year with their newly created TV unit, ripping story lines from Televisa’s popular telenovelas and adapting them into English-language comedies and dramas, as well as developing original scripted and usncripted concepts for U.S. broadcast networks and cable channels.

Lionsgate and Televisa first partnered in September of 2010, creating Pantelion Films, with the objective of acquiring and distributing films geared at U.S. Latinos.  That effort led to the release of their first film, “From Prada to Nada.”

The new venture's first production would be the English remake of "Soy tu dueña."

The L.A. Times reports  the yet unnamed venture will be managed by Paul Presburger, chief executive of Pantelion Films.

What are they working on first?  An English remake of “Soy Tu Dueña,” which aired on Univision in 2010.  The show will be called “Badlands.”   ABC Studios is collaborating on the series.
