Update June 30, 2012: Media Moves received more than enough votes to be considered for a grant in the Mission: Small Business program.
—
Media Moves just celebrated a birthday. The site went live on June 26, 2007 as a simple blog, with a big idea – to cover what no one else was: Latinos in the media, as well as the growing Hispanic media.
While throughout the years I’ve often reported on negative aspects of the media, such as massive layoffs (and there were many of those stories in 2008), firings cancellation of newscasts and newspaper closures, the main objective of this site has always been to highlight the accomplishments of Latino professionals who work in the media – be it print, broadcast or online – and even recognize those who had to leave the news business to enter the world of public relations and communications in order to survive.
Media Moves isn’t just about keeping people informed, it’s about keeping people connected. It’s highly likely that you can type a colleague’s name in the Media Moves search window and you’ll find some news about them.
My loyal followers can attest to the fact that the media industry trades don’t write much about Latino media professionals. That’s why Media Moves is important.
I started Media Moves on Blogspot with just a handful of followers. Given the popularity of the blog, in June of 2011, I switched to a WordPress platform in order to improve user navigation and make it easier for people to find news relevant to them. How much has the site grown? In May of 2012 I had more than 30,000 visitors!
The great thing about publishing the site has been the positive feedback, comments and support I’ve received throughout the years.
As you all may know, I have been publishing Media Moves by myself, without earning any income from my work on the site. I’m looking to expand the site, with more original content. For that, I’ll need financing.
I have recently found out about the Mission: Small Business grant, to which I have applied. But I need to get the support of at least 250 people to vote for Media Moves for a chance to get this grant.
I’m asking for your help to expand Media Moves. Please take the time to vote and spread the word. It’s easy.
The only thing you need to do:
1. Visit www.missionsmallbusiness.com
2. Click on “Log in and Support”
3. Put the name of the business you’re supporlting: Media Moves Network
4. Vote!
Thanks so much for your years of reading and sending me tips. I hope you help me now with your vote!
