Univision is poised to end 2012 as the #4 network in the country (broadcast or cable) in the 18-34 coveted key demo. It has seen an increase in viewership among adults 18-34 to 984,000, lifting the network from 5th place a year ago.
During the week of December 10 to December 16, Univision showed record growth due to extensive coverage of Jenni Rivera’s tragic death:
- “Noticiero Univision” airing weeknights at 6:30 p.m., set a record breaking weekly performance with 3.1 million Total Viewers 2+, 1.6 million Adults 18-49, 1.6 million Adults 25-54 and 684,000 Adults 18-34. It also ranked as the No. 1 evening newscast on broadcast television with more viewers aged 18 to 34 than “ABC World News Tonight” (+21% Adv.), “CBS Evening News” (+76% Adv.) and “NBC Nightly News” (+11% Adv.). This marked the fifth consecutive week that “Noticiero Univision” outperformed “CBS Evening News” in the Adult 18-34 demographic group.
- “Noticiero Univision Edicion Nocturna” airing weeknights at 11:30 p.m., averaged 2.3 million Total Viewers 2+ and 1.2 million Adults 25-54. It was also the fourth highest-rated late night program on all of broadcast television among Adults 18-49 (1.2 million), out delivering first-run airings of CBS’ “Late Show with David Letterman” (+25% Adv.) and “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” (+128% Adv.) and NBC’s “Jimmy Fallon” (+106% Adv.) and “The Tonight Show” (+121% Adv.).
- “Despierta América” posted its best weekly performance in the history of the show, delivering nearly 1.7 million Total Viewers 2+, 881,000 Adults 18-49, 859,000 Adults 25-54 and 440,000 Adults 18-34, generating more Adult 18-49 viewers than “CBS This Morning” (with a +23% advantage), and more Adult 18-34 viewers than ABC’s “Good Morning America” (+19% Adv.), “CBS This Morning” (+122% Adv.) and NBC’s “Today Show” (+32% Adv.).
- “Hoy” averaged over 1.3 million Total Viewers 2+, 760,000 Adults 18-49, 725,000 Adults 25-54 and 385,000 Adults 18-34, marking its best weekly performance in the time period.
- “El Gordo y la Flaca” delivered an average of 3.3 million Total Viewers 2+, 1.8 million Adults 18-49, 1.7 million Adults 25-54 and 956,000 Adults 18-34 – more than doubling its audience levels in comparison to the same week in 2011.
- Also doubling its audience levels from the comparable week in 2011, “Primer Impacto” with an average of 3.5 million Total Viewers 2+, 1.9 million Adults 18-49, 1.8 million Adults 25-54 and 932,000 Adults 18-34.
Here are some additional highlights from the year:
Univision is set to finish 2012 as the No. 5 network in all of television for the ninth consecutive year (since 2004) during broadcast primetime with 3.6 million Total Viewers 2+ and 1.8 million Adults 18-49. The Spanish-language network was the #1 broadcast network among Adults 18-49 on 38 nights in 2012. It has also out-delivered at least one or more of the English-language broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX) on more nights in 2012 so far than the comparable dates in 2011 among Adults 18-49 (279 nights vs. 265 nights) – as well as among Adults 18-34 (333 nights vs. 326 nights).
So far, Univision has out-performed ABC, CBS and FOX on more nights in 2012 versus same nights in 2011 among Adults 18-49 and 18-34:
- Adults 18-49: ABC (145 nights vs. 133 nights), CBS (129 nights vs. 114 nights) and FOX (128 nights vs. 104 nights)
- Adults 18-34: ABC (244 nights vs. 206 nights), CBS (269 nights vs. 249 nights) and FOX (143 nights vs. 138 nights)
Univision continues to deliver younger viewers during primetime in comparison to the English-language broadcast networks: Univision (38 years old), ABC (52 years old), CBS (57 years old), NBC (50 years old), FOX (46 years old) and the CW (39 years old).

- Made Univision the #1 network for the fifth consecutive year among Adults 18-34 in broadcast primetime. And the No. 2 Network among Adults 18-49 (beating ABC, NBC, FOX, CW and all of the cable network offerings) during entire night.

Univision’s “TeletónUSA” airing from December 14-16, 2012
- Reached 13.9 million Viewers 2+ who tuned in to all or part of the twenty-eight hour broadcast.
- During the first hour of “TeletónUSA” (10-11 p.m. ET on Friday, December 14), the telecast made Univision the No. 3 broadcast network in the time slot, beating CBS among Adults 18-34.
- Overall, the 28-hour broadcast on the Univision Network generated 1.2 million Total Viewers 2+, 585,000 Adults 18-49 and 284,000 Adults 18-34.
