The brand new state-of-the-art television production facility that will house the Fusion news team actually has a name: Newsport. The open space 150,000 square foot operations/production studio located in Doral, just 5 minutes away from Univision’s Miami headquarters, will be the home not just of the Fusion employees, but of the entire Univision News department.
The shared space will allow for content and resource sharing and make it easier for Jorge Ramos to anchor his 6:30 p.m. Univision newscast in Spanish and then walk a few steps to another set to do his hour-long Fusion newscast in English.
Fusion staffers began moving in to its new headquarters a couple of weeks ago, but the public ribbon-cutting ceremony took place yesterday, with César Conde doing the honors alongside Florida Governor Rick Scott and City of Doral Mayor Luigi Boria.
Set to debut on October 28, Fusion CEO Beau Ferrari says it’s expected the new network will be in 20 million homes by the launch date.
