Sylvia Ulloa is the new managing editor of the Las Cruces Sun-News. Her first day on the job was Friday, Nov. 1.
She joins the Sun-News after spending 2 years at the El Paso Times, where she was Features Co-Editor and Lifestyle Editor. She previously spent 12 years at the San Jose Mercury News, where she held multiple roles, including News and Features Designer, Deputy News Designer Director and Metro News Editor.
“I moved to Las Cruces about 2 and a half years ago to be closer to family. My family came from the Mesilla Valley, so I have some strong cultural and family ties to the area,” Sylvia tells me. “I’m just so excited about the opportuntity at the Sun-News. Most journalists go into the business to make a difference, and I’m still starry-eyed enough to believe that want to make my community a better place.”
Before the Mercury News, Sylva was Features Editor for The Salinas Californian.
