Rafael Pineda’s last day as New York’s longest running anchor was last Friday, December 20. He had been Univision 41′s main news anchor since 1972.
The Emmy award-winning journalist, who built a reputation of credibility and integrity throughout his 42-year career at the NY station, is considered an institution in the industry. In November 2013, he was inducted into The New York Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame.
Rafael announced his retirement in October.
Starting tonight Jorge Viera takes over the coveted seat. Jorge joined WXTV-41 in July of this year, replacing Rafael on the 11 pm newscast, with plans to later step in for the 6 pm as well.
Jorge started on the air as 11 pm anchor on September 16, 2013. Prior to joining WXTV, he was a freelance correspondent for Univision Network. He has also previously worked for RTV and Telemundo Los Angeles.
