KWHY-22 unveils new multimillion dollar studios

Los Angeles television station KWHY-22 is moving its staff and operations to its brand new studios in the Mid-City area of Los Angeles within the next week.  The $20 million dollar Meruelo Media Broadcast & Studio Center will house MundoFOX 22, Super 22 and hip-hop and R&B radio station, 93.5 KDAY, which the company bought in December.

The Meruelo Media-owned station had its grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony last Wednesday, January 15, with more than 250 guests in attendance, including several local politicians.

The building boasts state-of-the-art technology, with an automated control room system.

“It’s very modern, very cutting edge,” says Otto Padrón, President and COO of Meruelo Media, who says the company spared no expense in buying the latest equipment

The refurbished building also houses three studios, including the one used for KWHY’s newscasts and the daily national entertainment show “¡Que No Te Cuenten!”

According to Padrón, the company is still on course with plans to expand its production to scripted and non-scripted programming – something he first revealed to Media Moves in January of last year.

“We have a few things in development,” he says. “We have two scripted projects on option with MundoFox network.”

Those projects are being developed by the Meruelo Media Entertainment division of the company.

“We have a great creative team,” says Padrón. “We’re also thinking of developing a talk format.  We need to have more programming that speaks to the U.S. Hispanic community and connects to our audience.”
