As part of the switch, the station management is launching a morning drive show with recently signed Ricardo Sánchez “El Mandril.” His morning show will air Monday through Friday from 5 to 10 am PT.
The “Éxitos” website has already been stripped and programming and content for KXOS has been moved to a new site, promoting the arrival of “El Mandril” on its homepage.
Mexico’s Grupo Radio Centro (GRC) operates 93.9 KXOS-FM through its subsidiary, Grupo Radio Centro, L.A.
After signing a 7-year Local Marketing Agreement with an option to buy the station from Emmis Communications in April of 2009, GRC switched from rhythmic adult contemporary to a Spanish oldies format, rebranding the station from “Movin’ 93” to “Éxitos 93.9.”
In August of 2012, 93.9 License, LLC (owned by 93.9 Holdings, Inc), exercised a call option to buy KXOS from Emmis for $85.5 million. GRC indirectly holds a 25% ownership interest in 93.9 Holdings, Inc.
In November of 2012, all KXOS on-air talent was laid off and management switched the station to a bilingual top 40 format.
