After spending more than 16 years in the newspaper industry and over 3 years as a news entrepreneur, McNelly Torres has moved over to television. Effective today, she is an investigative producer for NBC6 in Miami.
“I’m very excited about this opportunity,” McNelly tells me. “While this is a new platform for me, I’m a quick learner and I’m looking forward to grow more as an investigative journalist while I use my data and investigative skills to produce hard-hitting stories. NBC has a vested interest in investigative journalism and I can’t wait to be part of the team.”
An award-winning reporter based in South Florida, McNelly built and launched the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting, the first bilingual investigative nonprofit, in 2010. She was the Associate Director and Reporter of the center.
She was previously Stimulus Team Leader for the Education Writer’s Association and a Consumer Watchdog reporter for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Before that, she was an Education Reporter at the San Antonio Express-News. She has also worked at the Morning News in South Carolina and The Lawton Constitution in Lawton, Oklahoma.
