Mexican singer and actress Lucero has been chosen to host Telemundo’s new reality musical competition, “Yo Soy El Artista.” The Sunday prime-time show is slated to premiere in September.
According to Telemundo, Lucero will not only host the competition, but also have a say in the future of the contestants.
Contestants on “Yo Soy el Artista” will have to sing, dance and demonstrate star quality and showmanship in an intense 13-week competition where the winner will be named the ultimate true “Artist.”
Lucero has starred in multiple Televisa telenovelas that have aired on Univision, including “Alborada,” “Mañana es Para Siempre,” “Soy tu Dueña” and most recently “Por ella Soy Eva.”
Lucero marks another celebrity get for Telemundo, which has been tapping into Televisa and Univision talent for its shows.
In recent years, Telemundo has signed several Univision and Televisa celebrities to appear in its own productions, including Blanca Soto, Kate del Castillo, Araceli Arámbula, Christian Bach and Juan Soler.
Telemundo partnered with Spain’s Reset TV to jointly own, develop, produce and distribute “Yo Soy el Artista,” based on an original concept from Reset TV founders Toni Cruz and Josep Maria Mainat, the creators of popular entertainment formats such as Mira Quien Baila (which airs on Univision) and Operación Triunfo, among others.
