News director Daniel Morcate and Executive Producer Roberto Pons have been relieved of their duties at Univision’s WLTV-23 in Miami, less than a year after taking over those roles.
The removals of Morcate and Pons are part of a reorganization of the news management at the Univision O&O, which has lost ratings ground to Telemundo’s WSCV-51.
Both men were notified of the change today. Inside sources say they were offered other positions within the company, but no further details are available at this time.
Roberto Vizcón, Univision’s Director of News and Special Projects, Local News since October of last year, will be the interim news director for Noticias 23 while the company conducts a search for a permanent news director and executive producer.
Morcate was named news director in May of 2014 after Emilio Marrero’s departure in December of 2013. He previously spent 20 years at Univision network as Chief Newsroom Editor.
Pons was named EP just 5 months ago, after working 10 years on Univision network’s assignment desk.
