Radio Ink has named recording artist Juanes as this year’s recipient of the Medallas de Cortez Distinguished Leadership Award for for his successful music career and his social and humanitarian activism.
The award will be presented next month at the Hispanic Radio Conference in Dallas.
The multi Grammy award-winning Juanes has previously been honored by Sir Paul McCartney’s Adopt-a-Minefield organization for his work raising awareness of the problem of land mines left over from conflicts around the world, including in his native Colombia.
He’s also been presented with France’s L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his social activism.
The Medallas de Cortez Distinguished Leadership Award is not presented every year. It’s only handed out “when Radio Ink feels we can honor a truly remarkable candidate.”
Previous Distinguished Leadership Award recipients include Geraldo Rivera and Jose Feliciano.
