Telemundo Puerto Rico launches consumer investigative unit

WKAQ Telemundo Puerto Rico today announced the launch of its new Telemundo Responde consumer investigative unit, effective immediately.

Reporter Zugey Lamela, who joined WKAQ from Univision in December of 2014, will lead the new Telemundo Responde team, which will investigate consumer complaints.

According to Telemundo Station Group, since it launched in 7 U.S. markets last year, the Telemundo Responde units have collectively received more than 13,000 tips, produced nearly 700 stories and recovered more than $1 million for consumers in Los Angeles (KVEA), New York (WNJU), Miami-Fort Lauderdale (WSCV), Houston (KTMD), Dallas-Fort Worth (KXTX), San Antonio (KVDA) and the San Francisco Bay Area (KSTS).

Among the stories covered: consumers who were owed compensation for participating in medical research projects, fell victim to identity theft, got scammed by tax preparers and were owed cell phone rebates.
