Joe Ruiz is leaving Kansas City NBC affiliate KSHB, where he has been Executive Producer of New Media since 2013, for a job as Weekend Editor at NPR.org in Washington, D.C.
In his new role, Joe will be the lead editor for digital coverage, including planning, production and promotion of site content, coordinating with staff from the weekend on-air shows.
His last day at KSHB is September 15.
“I’ve been lucky to have such a strong digital team here in Kansas City. The strong support of our management team both locally and nationally has allowed us to grow into a respectable digital news operation, and I couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunity they gave me to try to make this newsroom better. I’m excited to see what’s next for 41 Action News as they continue to grow,” he tells Media Moves.
Joe starts at NPR on October 5.
“I’m beyond excited to join NPR. All I’ve wanted to do is to inform people and tell good stories, and there’s not a lot of places you can do those as well as NPR does. Their dedication to the audience is something that should be emulated, and I couldn’t pass up a chance to play a role in that newsroom. I’m looking forward to getting started.”
Joe’s previous experience includes positions as Engagement Editor of NOWCastSA.com, Associate Producer for seattletimes.com and Web Editor for KSAT.com.
