Univision continues its executive reductions. Alberto Mier y Terán, who was promoted to EVP, Local Media during a Univision management restructuring in August of last year, is no longer with the company.
Mier y Terán was given additional duties earlier this year, assuming responsibility for News, Engineering, Research, Digital and Vendor Program Sales across Univision Local Media, during a second leadership reorganization.
His exit comes a week after Jaime Jiménez was ousted from the company.
Mier y Terán’s exit came as a surprise to some insiders, who say his departure is part of the company’s cost reduction strategy. Univision has been cutting costs company-wide as it prepares to go public. The company filed for the IPO in July.
Prior to his regional roles at Univision, Mier y Terán was VP and General Manager of KMEX in Los Angeles and WGBO in Chicago. He previously spent over 10 years as VP and GM of the Entravision-owned stations in San Diego.
