Telemundo enjoys ratings bonanza in August

Telemundo continues to make ratings gains, narrowing the previously huge gap with its rival Univision.

Not only has the network produced its best August results ever in weekday primetime, it’s seeing ratings victories in local markets for the first time in some of its stations.

That’s the case for Telemundo Houston. For the first time in its history, “Noticiero Telemundo Houston” at 10 pm was the most-watched late local newscast, regardless of language, from Monday to Friday among Adults 18 to 34 and Adults 18 to 49.

The ratings gains have been slow, but steady. August 2015 also marks the fourth consecutive month KTMD’s 10 pm newscast outranked all English-language market competitors’ late local news among Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49, according to Nielsen numbers released by Telemundo.

KSTS-48 in the San Francisco/San Jose is another success story. Although the station’s 11 pm newscast and the primetime 7-11 pm programming tied with KDTV Univision 14 in August, the Telemundo O&O made history during July sweeps.

For the first time in the station’s 27-year history, KSTS was the most-watched Spanish-language station in the market during primetime among adults 18 to 49 and adults 25 to 54, and its 11 pm newscast tied for the number one spot among adults 18 to 49, regardless of language.

In Los Angeles, “Noticiero Telemundo 52” at 5:30 pm was the most-watched local newscast in the hour among Adults 18 to 49, regardless of language. KVEA’s morning newscast was also the most-watched Spanish-language local news program from 5  to 6 am among Adults 18 to 34 and Adults 18 to 49.

In Miami, WSCV Telemundo 51 continued its ratings dominance during its 5:30, 6 and 11 pm newscasts, ranking #1 overall in those time slots among adults 18 to 49.

The  Monday-Friday 10 pm timeslot has made Telemundo a winner, making it the #1 Spanish-language network in August among adults 18-49 and adults 18-34.

Telemundo is increasing its  Monday-Friday primetime audience year-over-year with a 13% boost in adults 18-49 and 21% adults 18-34, according to Nielsen. This registers the smallest gap with Univision in its history (124,000 and 29,000 respectively). Compared to the prior month, the gap has decreased nearly 50% in adults 18-49 (238,000) and almost 80% in adults 18-34 (127,000).
