Instead, the Entravision-operated station will replace the half-hour newscasts with a weekly news recap segment that will air on Saturdays at 6 pm and Sundays at 11 pm.
The new 30 minute segment will highlight the previous week’s top news.
A company spokesperson said there will be no layoffs and issued the following statement about the cancellation of the newscasts:
“The shift in programming at Univision WFDC-TV in Washington D.C. reflects the company’s effort to strengthen and better support the station’s full newscast and team. This adjustment also demonstrates Entravision’s ongoing commitment to providing its Washington D.C. U.S. Latino community with the highest quality and most relevant content and news at all times. Programming changes will include a new weekly recap segment that will air on Saturdays at 6:00 PM and Sundays at 11:00 PM, highlighting the previous week’s (Mon-Fri) top news. “Perspectiva Nacional” will continue to air on Saturdays at 11:00 PM and Sundays at 6:00 PM.”
