Mexican journalist Pedro Ferriz Hijar has been named anchor of Estrella TV’s 10:30 pm national newscast “Cierre de Edición.”
That’s the newscast that was launched in 2010 and anchored by Enrique Gratas until he died of cancer last year.
Pedro is moving from Mexico for this new role. His on-air debut will be sometime in mid to late February.
He was most recently primetime newscast anchor for Efekto TV and hosted a 3-hour nightly program on Poder México Radio.
A third generation broadcaster, he is the son of Mexican radio and TV personality Pedro Ferriz de Con and grandson of radio and TV presenter Pedro Ferriz Santacruz.
Pedro’s arrival means he will be unseating Adriana Ruggiero, who has been anchoring the newscast for the past several months.
Pedro will also take over the network’s public affairs/political show “En la lucha,” which Adriana has been hosting since December, after Estrella TV parted ways with Hernán Molina.
What will happen to Adriana?
Management is still trying to figure that out. But an executive told Media Moves that she will definitely remain with the network.
One of the options being considered is to have Adriana co-host the 5:30 pm national newscast. A final decision will be made within the next few weeks.
