February sweeps give Univision and Telemundo local news wins
Veronica Villafañe
Univision and Telemundo both scored ratings wins in several top local markets during February sweeps. But Miami is where the battle between the rivals is most intense.
The pressure to win in the market is such that Univision 23 and Telemundo 51 both claim to be #1 at 6 pm in February among Adults 18 to 49 and Adults 25 to 54.
The stations actually tied with a 1.5 rating at 6 pm.
While Telemundo 51 announced a win at 11 pm, it did so among Adults 18 to 34. Univision 23 boasted a win at 11 pm among Adults 18 to 49 and Adults 25 to 54, but that number is inflated to include viewers of the newscast’s simulcast on UniMás. (Univision won’t provide ratings data without the simulcast numbers.)
Univision is #1 in early morning among Adults 18 to 49 and Adults 25 to 54, while Telemundo 51 holds on to a solid win at 5:30 pm, outranking all other stations in the market regardless of language among Adults 18 to 49 and Adults 25 to 54 for the past 16 consecutive months.
