Telemundo Studios is reworking its senior management structure. As part of the changes, it has created new positions and promoted two management executives into those roles.
Perla Farías, VP of Novela Development at Telemundo is now SVP, Scripted Development and Carmen Urbaneja moves up from VP of Novela Production to SVP, Scripted Productions. Both will report to Luis Silberwasser, President, Telemundo.
In her new role, Farías will be responsible for the overall development of scripted programming for Telemundo Studios, leading the team of writers and development executives. She’ll play a key role in the green light process and focus on generating internal ideas and new formats, as well as evaluating external proposals from third parties for scripted series to add to Telemundo’s primetime line up.
Farías, who has been with Telemundo for 13 years, has led the development of telenovelas such as “Señor de los Cielos 2,” “Señora Acero,” “Dueños del Paraíso,” and “Bajo el Mismo Cielo.” Among her credits, she developed the story for RCTV’s drama “Juana La Virgen,” which was remade as “Jane the Virgin” for English-language television.
Urbaneja will lead the production of scripted projects for Telemundo Studios, directing and overseeing the production teams in charge of in-house and external scripted projects. She’ll act as the liaison between the network and Telemundo Studios on production issues.
Urbaneja joined Telemundo in October 2012 and has served as Executive Producer on several Telemundo series, such as “Tierra de reyes” and “¿Quién es quién?” Most recently, she is credited as the EP on “Silvana Sin Lana,” currently under production.
