Waheedah Wilson, a 37-year-old homeless woman, has been in jail since the June 8 attack, because she couldn’t afford bond for her $25,000 bail, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Judge Jacqueline Frazier-Lyde sentenced Wilson to 60 days in jail with credit for time served. The sentence means Wilson will stay behind bars another 18 days.
The D.A.’s office initially had offered Wilson a plea deal of 5 to 18 months in jail, followed by 6 months of probation for counts of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
Considering the deal to be too harsh for a single punch, Wilson’s defense lawyer advised her not to accept it.
The D.A.’s office withdrew the plea deal, dropped the reckless-endangering charge, and asked the judge to sentence Wilson to a 3-month jail term and 6 months’ probation.
Delgado was present during the court proceedings, but declined to comment on the sentencing of her attacker.
