Azteca América announced today it signed an affiliate and sales agreement with WGEN that will add the full power Miami station to its network group after MundoMax goes off the air at 11:59 pm on November 30.
The deal gives Azteca América, geared primarily to Mexicans in the U.S., a stronger signal in the country’s third largest Hispanic DMA. It currently airs on low power station WDGT Channel 24 and will continue to do so for the next two months to comply with a 60-day notice.
WGEN will carry Azteca America’s programming, including its “Hechos” news franchises. The station’s two local weekday newscasts at 6 and 10 pm will be rebranded “Hechos Miami 8.”
Journalist Ricardo Brown will continue to host his weekly community affairs program “Brown & Compañía” at 10 am on Saturdays and Sundays.
Carlos Marquez-Sterling stays on as the station’s general manager.
The WGEN addition expands the network to 65 markets, 17 of which are operated by Azteca América.
