Spanish-language daily La Opinión, which in 2014 abandoned its traditional broadsheet format for a tabloid-like paper, has decided to make some changes to improve the publication’s look.
The paper now has an additional inch in height – from 9.425” to 11.255” – and a slightly reduced width down from 10.175” to 9/81”.
The new version of the daily also uses whiter and thicker paper stock, making it appear more like a real tabloid than the flimsy square of the past two years.
According to Editorial Director Gabriel Lerner, the change is part of a “new Image for La Opinión. We improved – by far – our printing quality, the paper in color and weigh, and the size – from square to a true tabloid.”
The company also moved its printing business to another provider closer to its distribution area.
The new format was rolled out on Monday, June 5.
