Daniel Viotto returns to the anchor desk after an 8-year absence from television news.
The former CNN en Español anchor, who was part of the team that launched the cable network’s 24-hour news operations in 1997, will now help Cox Media kickstart “Noticias Charlotte.”
Viotto will anchor weekday 5 and 6 pm ET newscasts and will also be Managing Editor.
“Noticias Charlotte” will debut Monday July 2 at 6 pm.
Due to World Cup programming, the newscast will only air at 6 pm on July 2, 3, 6, 10 and 11.
“Noticias Charlotte” will be the first and only Spanish-language television newscasts in Charlotte.
Viotto was most recently Video Content Manager for Cox’s Spanish-language online property Mundo Hispánico, a role he has held since 2014.
He previously spent 14 years at CNNE in Atlanta, leaving in 2011. He went on to co-found an online news start-up, before taking a job at Cox Media.
Viotto also worked as a reporter at KVEA Telemundo 52 and KMEX Univision 34 in Los Angeles from 1993 to 1996.
Cox, which launched Telemundo Charlotte in June 2017, announced plans to sell weekly newspaper Mundo Hispánico and its online vertical earlier this year.
