Alejandro Mendoza has left California to join Telemundo Houston as the station’s new 5 and 10 pm weeknight anchor.
He replaces Martín Berlanga, who resigned in August after six years on the job.
Mendoza started at Telemundo Houston this week. The company has yet to announce his on-air debut date.
Mendoza has been off the air for over a year, since he exited Univision KMEX-34 in Los Angeles in March 2017 to study cinematography at UCLA.
Mendoza spent 14 years with Univision, starting as a Mexico-based correspondent in 2002, before landing his first anchor role at KDTV-14 six years later.
In 2012, he left San Francisco to become anchor of KMEX 34’s morning show “Primera Edición.” The station moved Mendoza to weekends in 2016.
Prior to Univision, he was a reporter for Televisa in Monterrey.
