Award-winning radio broadcaster Antonio González has died at the age of 77.
He passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. His family has not disclosed the cause of death.
González started his journalism career in his native Honduras at Radio Morazan in 1957.
He arrived to Los Angeles in 1963, where four years later, he landed his first radio gig at KWKW.
During his more than 50 years in the L.A. broadcasting scene, he also worked for KLVE, KSKQ and KTNQ, picking up 11 Golden Mikes along the way. He also did brief TV stints at KMEX-34 and channel 22.
His show “En Contacto” continued to air on KTNQ on Saturday and Sunday mornings. His last broadcast was Sunday September 2, 2018.
“My Father, was a a true gentleman. Along with the tremendous love he had for his family, he had just as much devotion to his audience. He was passionate about informing and educating the community on things that could affect them in this society,” his son Fernando González shared with Media Moves. “I will miss my Father every day of my life, but I thank God that he allowed me to be the son of the legendary Antonio González. You will always be my Champion Pops!”
A funeral service for González will take place Tuesday October 9, 2018 at 10 am at the Church of the Recessional at Forest Lawn Glendale 1712 S. Glendale, CA.
