Emmy award-winning journalists Francisco Pinto and Adrian García Márquez will reunite as a Spanish-language sports broadcast team.
The Los Angeles Chargers has tapped the duo to be the Spanish-language voices for the team’s radio broadcasts on Estrella Media’s Que Buena 105.5/94.3 FM entering the 2020 season.
Pinto will provide color commentary and García Márquez will serve as the play-by-play announcer. In addition to calling the games, they will make appearances on EstrellaTV 62 and on the Chargers’ various digital media platforms.
Both have been fixtures in Los Angeles sports for more than two decades and previously teamed up as Spanish-language broadcasters for the Lakers.
A native of Chile, Pinto spent 12 years with KMEX Univision 34 – seven as a sports anchor, before moving to the news anchor seat on the station’s morning newscast, “Primera Edición.”
Pinto, who has covered two World Cups (2002 and 2006) and several NBA Finals, Super Bowls, World Series and world title boxing matches, won the 2012 and 2015 NBA Broadcasting Award for Best Live Call and a 2013 LA Area Emmy Award for Live Sports Coverage for the contest between the Lakers and Raptors on December 8 of that year.
García Márquez returns to the Chargers booth after 12 years. He was previously the team’s Spanish-language play-by-play announcer in 2008, when the team was in San Diego.
A San Diego native, García Márquez began his career in baseball in 1999 as the host of the San Diego Padres Pregame Show for the team’s Spanish radio flagship K1040 AM.
He spent six seasons as “La Voz de Los Lakers” on television where he won an Emmy Award for Live Sports Coverage, two NBA Best Live Call awards, and three Southern California Sports-Broadcaster Association Awards for best TV Play by Play.
Estrella Media signed a multi-year broadcast and media partnership deal with the LA Chargers in June. The agreement makes EstrellaTV 62 Los Angeles (KRCA) and Que Buena 105.5/94.3 FM (KBUE) the official Spanish-language year-round media partner. EstrellaTV 62 and Que Buena 105.5/94.3 FM will broadcast all preseason, regular season and postseason Chargers games, including pre and postgame shows.
