Estrella Media has launched an EstrellaTV-branded station in the San Francisco Bay Area on full power television station KEMO TV, channel 50.
The launch is part of the company’s “linear and digital expansion” plans across the country.
KEMO TV will be operated by Estrella Media in a licensing agreement with HC2, which owns the station that was airing Azteca América network.
The deal means that the slowly disappearing and low-rated Azteca América network will move to a digital multicast channel.
A spokesperson for the Burbank, CA-headquartered company says Estrella Media will have its own local sales team for the in San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose market and at some point in the future, may produce a local newscast.
