Sussy Ruiz has been hired as Editor-in-Chief for the revival and launch of The Weather Channel en Español.
Now based in Atlanta, she’ll be responsible for helping recruit on and off-camera talent, building out workflows and shaping the overall editorial direction of the new network.
Owned by Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group (AMG), TWCE was supposed to launch in 2020, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A spokesperson would not provide additional information about the new network or updated launch date. However, an August 2 press release about AMG’s $380 million cash acquisition of 10 local Gray Television stations indicates the launch will be in 2022.
If that’s the case, the rebirth of TWCE will take place 20 years after it was shut down in 2002, after just 6 years on the air.
Prior to joining The Weather Channel, Ruiz worked for Univision and Telemundo in various roles at the local and national level, including Assistant News Director at Telemundo KTMD in Houston and Regional Manager of Broadcast and Digital News for Univision Television Group.
