Veronica Placencia, who most recently held the position of newsroom leader on an interim basis, has been officially promoted to news director at KERO 23ABC.
Placencia joined the Scripps-owned Bakersfield ABC affiliate in 2019 as assistant news director.
In that role, she oversaw election specials, town hall meetings and navigated the newsroom through the pandemic. She also launched the station’s equity, diversity and inclusion committee and has led KERO’s community board.
Prior to her move to California, the Texas native worked in El Paso as news director at NBC affiliate KTSM from May 2015 to December 2016. She previously spent 8 years as assistant news director at Univision 26.
Before that, Placencia was a producer for KTSM, KFOX 14 and KDBC.
