There will soon be new leadership at L.A.’s NBC 4 and Telemundo 52.
Staffers at the stations were notified their GMs – KVEA 52’s Celia Chávez and KNBC’s Steve Carlston – will be leaving their jobs when a replacement is named.
They will be succeeded by one GM who will oversee both stations. The position has been posted and a search is underway.
Carlston joined KNBC as GM in 2011.
Chávez was named Telemundo 52’s GM in 2012. During her tenure, thanks to an NBCUniversal investment in local Telemundo stations, KVEA expanded its morning newscast to a full hour, it launched a new 5:30 pm weekday newscast and created consumer investigative unit Telemundo Responde.
She also oversaw Telemundo 52’s move to the Brokaw News Center, sharing the facilities with sister station NBC.
Before joining Telemundo 52, Chavez was president and GM of WSNS Telemundo 44 in Chicago from 2009 to 2012. She was previously president and GM of Telemundo Las Vegas and Telemundo Denver. Before that, she led Telemundo KVDA in San Antonio from 2006 to 2008.
