Telemundo Network has shut down its Chicago news bureau. As a result, the company has laid off correspondent Ruben Pereida.
A company spokesperson confirmed the closure with the following statement:
“Noticias Telemundo has decided to close its Chicago network bureau as part of a review of the network’s editorial operations and plans to expand its reporting presence in other markets. We will continue to cover Chicago with our team of correspondents in nearby markets. As a consequence, Ruben Pereida is no longer working with Noticias Telemundo. We appreciate his dedication and contributions over the last six years and wish him all the best in his next endeavors.”
Pereida was promoted to the network and moved to Chicago in 2016. He was previously a weekday anchor for Noticiero Telemundo Arizona.
Before joining Telemundo in 2013, he spent 8 years as an anchor and video journalist at KTVW Univision 33 in Phoenix.
