Patricia Janiot spent 26 years as lead anchor at CNN en Español, but barely lasted 5 years with Univision. She is no longer with the company.
Janiot, who joined Univision in 2017, had several roles within the network.
She anchored Noticias Univision’s late night weekday newscast, most recently with León Krauze, was co-anchor of Sunday news magazine Aquí y Ahora, co-anchored a short-lived newscast on Unimás and hosted JANIOT PM on streaming platform ViX, which got its start as a show on IGTV.
During her final newscast on Thursday, September 8, a visibly emotional Janiot told viewers her departure comes after a 40-year journalism career:
“My time with you ends for different personal reasons, but family reasons led to a greater certainty about the need to make this pause along the way. It’s a decision that coincided with the company’s plans.”
She shared her farewell message on her YouTube and social media channels.
Media Moves reached out to Janiot to inquire about her next professional plans, but has yet to get a response.
Univision issued the following statement about her departure:
“We are thankful for the contributions, expertise, and analyses that Patricia Janiot brought to our news division – we admire and value her work on keeping Hispanic communities empowered and informed during her time with Univision Noticias. On behalf of TelevisaUnivision, we wish Patricia Janiot the best in her future endeavors.”
According to a company spokesperson, León Krauze will remain as solo anchor for Noticiero Univision Edición Nocturna. No word yet on who will move into Janiot’s role at Aquí y Ahora and what will happen to the timeslot her show had on ViX.
