Dax Tejera, executive producer of the ABC Sunday morning show “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” died of a heart attack. He was only 37.
He passed away December 23.
ABC news remembered Tejera during a Saturday newscast.
Tejera, who had stepped in to lead “This Week” at the start of the pandemic, was named executive producer of the show in December 2021. During his tenure at the show, he oversaw breaking news coverage, including the ongoing pandemic, the 2020 presidential election and the January 6 riot at the Capitol.
Tejera joined ABC News in 2017 as a senior producer in the Washington Bureau, where he produced remote-anchored broadcasts from across the country and specials.
Prior to joining ABC News, Tejera was the executive producer of “América with Jorge Ramos,” which aired on the now defunct Univision cable network Fusion.
He previously worked as a producer at MSNBC. He started his career with NBC News, working as an assignment editor and researcher.
Tejera is survived by his wife and two young daughters.
