Univision News President Leopoldo Gómez is leaving TelevisaUnivision.
Gómez, who spent 23 years as VP of News at Televisa, relocated to Miami from Mexico and took over the top news job at Univision in 2021, as part of the leadership restructuring following the merger of both media companies.
At the time, he replaced ousted Daniel Coronell.
In a release, TelevisaUnivision stated Gómez “informed the company’s senior leadership team of his decision to leave Univision a couple of months ago” in order “to pursue other interests.”
His last day on the role is July 14.
EVP of News María Martínez-Guzmán will be Gómez’s interim replacement.
A longtime Univision news exec, Martínez-Guzmán has held key roles within Univision’s local and national news operations since 1998. She joined Univision Network from local station KNVO-48 in McAllen in 2002.
