EVP of News News María Martínez-Guzmán, named Leopoldo Gómez’s interim replacement, following his departure as President of Univision News in July, did not get the top leadership position at Televisa Univision’s news division.
Instead, the company is bringing back Daniel Coronell to take over the role.
Coronell, who worked at Univision News for 10 years, joining the team as VP of Network News, later promoted to President in 2016, was ousted in 2021 during a leadership restructuring that led to the appointment of Gómez, Televisa’s former head of news.
Rumors had been swirling for the past few days about Coronell’s return, which the company would not address.
No word yet on his start date.
Martínez-Guzmán, who has worked for Univision’s network news in various capacities for more than two decades, and had been filling in for Gómez, overseeing the company’s editorial and news production units, will continue as EVP of Univision News.
