Anchor Cristina Puig retires from Telemundo Tampa

Cristina Puig

Cristina Puig has anchored her last newscast at Telemundo Tampa.

She made an emotional on-air farewell, sharing she was retiring to start a new chapter in her life.

“I decided not to renew my contract as I am getting married and moving to Jupiter, FL and spending more time with my family. In the future I have plans to work on some causes that are near and dear to me,” she tells Media Moves.

But she’s not entirely calling it quits.

“I will remain active on the Advisory Board at the Zimmerman School of Communications for the University of South Florida.”

Her last day on the anchor desk was April 18.

Puig had been at Telemundo Tampa for a decade, initially joining the station when it was owned by ZGS.

She previously spent seven years as a freelance reporter for Univision, Telefutura, CNN en Espanol, WFOR and WPBF, among other news outlets.

Puig embarked on her journalism journey as a reporter at WLTV 23 after graduating from the University of Miami in 1985. Following an 18-year hiatus to raise her three children, she re-entered the news industry as a freelance reporter.
