Jorge Ramos, the longest-running network news anchor in the United States, will leave Univision at the end of the year.
Ramos has been a fixture at the Spanish-language network for 40 years, the last 38 in his current anchor role.
The company announced today that Univision News and Jorge Ramos have mutually agreed not to renew his contract, which was set to expire soon.
According to a company statement, Ramos will step down as co-anchor of Noticiero Univision at the end of 2024, following the U.S. Presidential Election.
“This is not a farewell. I will continue anchoring Noticiero Univision until December, and afterwards I will share my professional plans,” Ramos stated via the company release.
At this time, the company would not address plans regarding a possible anchor replacement.
Ramos’s long-time co-anchor, María Elena Salinas, chose not to renew her contract and left Univision in 2017 to pursue opportunities in English-language network news.
