Following TelevisaUnivision CEO Daniel Alegre’s email warning of layoffs, Maity Interiano, co-anchor of Univision network’s late evening newscast, bid her viewers farewell.
Interiano, who spent 17 years with Univision, shared on-camera how she started as an intern and landed her first job and built her entire broadcast career with the company.
In a brief video that she shared on social media, she expressed her gratitude to Univision and said she would announce what she would do next at a future time.
She wasn’t the only one. Other network talent were impacted by the cuts. Among them: “Despierta América” chef Jesús Díaz, known as Chef Yisus, and “Primer Impacto” correspondent Roger Borges.
As the day wore on, news of layoffs from around the country trickled in – from local talent to news managers.
From the Univision D.C. station, news director Juan Carlos Pinzón and weather anchor Daniel Rivera were let go. Rivera also did weather for Univision Philadelphia. At Univision 23 in Miami, local reporter Carolina Peguero was one of the cuts.
On Monday, TelevisaUnivision shut down Univision’s longtime Mexico City bureau, eliminating all the positions. Univision’s KDTV-14 station news director Juan Carlos Gutiérrez got his pink slip. Sacramento station ND Vladimir Araya will be overseeing the San Francisco Bay Area newsroom for the time being.
This is a developing story. Media Moves will report other names once they’re confirmed.
*12/5/24 Update: Rivera issued a statement on social media regarding his departure from Univision, also thanking the company and stating he would soon share news about future projects on his digital platforms.

How much cuts? Ridiculous. No more tv everyone going to tiktok or youtube no future, sad

Sad how the competent ones are being fired while the lazy ones keep their job. Same happened to me some time ago…Take Univision Dallas as an example. Lots of remote employees earning a living by doing nothing. Managers managing 2-5 employees. Thanks for the Christmas Gift, Mr. Alegre.

The San Francisco News Director appears to have been abusing his authority in the workplace, including hiring his “amiguita and former co-worker” as the sole evening anchor before being let go. It will be interesting to see how this situation impacts their relationship moving forward.

The nepotism is happening at other affiliates as well. It all comes out in the end.
Tamy says
Not to mention all those inappropriate behavior concerns raised with HR.

How sad that they fire so many people at Univision, and why they don’t fire Satcha Pretto for dancing so terribly, it’s ridiculous to see how this woman dances when she comes in the morning to Despierta America, Univision is over and Satcha Pretto didn’t learn to dance, but arrogant if it is.
