María Elena Salinas announced her departure from ABC News after nearly three years as a contributor.
In an Instagram post, the veteran journalist reflected on her time at the network, highlighting her work on stories about the Latino community and her contributions to Nightline and the Uvalde365 project, which she called “the highlight” of her tenure.
“Today is my last day at ABC News. It’s been a ride,” she wrote, expressing gratitude to her colleagues and the network for believing in her ability to connect with English-speaking audiences.
“When I left Univision, I said I wanted to continue to tell our stories to different audiences in different platforms. Mission accomplished.”
Salinas, who left Univision in 2017 after 36 years with the company has been a trailblazer in journalism. She easily transitioned to English-language news, hosting The Real Story with María Elena Salinas on Investigation Discovery for two seasons. She went on to become a contributor for CBS News before joining ABC in March 2022.
While she hinted at retirement, Salinas left the door open for future opportunities, signing off with a playful “maybe?”
She made her announcement on Friday, December 13, coinciding with the day her longtime former news partner, Jorge Ramos, anchored his final newscast on Univision.
