José Acevedo has left Telemundo 49 Tampa to focus on some immediate personal and family matters.
He had worked at as a digital producer for Telemundo49.com since 2018, wrapping his 7-year run at the station on February 6.
He has since accepted an offer from Nexstar to join WFLA as a bilingual digital producer.
Acevedo will oversee the Spanish-language website and anchor digital newscasts for TampaHoy.com, a platform launched during the pandemic to serve Tampa Bay’s bilingual and Spanish-speaking audiences.
“They reached out to me because of my strong connection with the community and my deep knowledge of culture, weather, sports, entertainment, and lifestyle in our city,” Acevedo told Media Moves.
He starts the new job on Monday, February 24.
Prior to Telemundo, Acevedo spent three years as a multimedia producer and writer at Univision Orlando/Tampa Bay. He also worked as an interactive producer at Univision Puerto Rico.
Acevedo began his career in digital media in 1999, founding Talentopuertorriqueno.com, later renamed TPLatino.com, which he ran for 14 years before shutting it down in 2013.
