MediaCo Holding Co. has followed through with its option to acquire Estrella Media’s radio and TV stations, building on its April 17, 2024, purchase of the network’s content, digital, and commercial operations.
The deal transfers the licenses of Estrella Media’s nine full- and low-power TV stations and 12 radio stations to MediaCo’s control, according to the company’s online public notices and FCC filings.
With the acquisition of Estrella Media’s broadcast properties, MediaCo’s portfolio, which previously consisted only of urban radio stations HOT 97 and WBLS in New York City, expands significantly.
In the Los Angeles area, MediaCo gains radio stations Que Buena 94.3/105.5 (KBUA/KBUA-FM1/KEBN/KBUE), Que Buena 96.1 (KRQB) in Riverside/San Bernardino, and 1480 KVNR in Santa Ana, as well as flagship TV station KRCA-62.
Houston properties include La Raza 98.5/101.7 (KTJM/KNTE), El Norte 107.9 (KQQK), and 850 KEYH-AM. In Dallas, MediaCo acquires La Raza 93.7 (KNOR), Luna 98.3 (KBOC), and La Ranchera 106.7 (KZZA).
In Miami, MediaCo adds WGEN-TV, the former MundoFox affiliate and once partially Caracol-owned station, which was purchased by Estrella Media predecessor LBI Media in 2018.
MediaCo is currently led by interim CEO Albert Rodriguez, who left SBS in December 2023. He succeeded Jacqueline Hernández, on board since April 2024, amid a leadership change in November.
The transaction is pending FCC approval.
